OUR MEN IN THE WEST

Documentary (90 min)

2018

Synopsis
The documentary Our Men in the West offers a different vision of exile and the social impact of large projects such as those of the oil sands in Alberta, Canada. These large-scale projects, based on economic growth, also involve human costs which modify, on a small or large scale, the cultural face of the regions. Over a period of six months, three families from the Acadian Peninsula, New Brunswick, opened their doors and their hearts to director Renée Blanchar and her team. Heartbreaking, Our Men in the West addresses questions of exile, life choices, values, but above all absence. Absence is undoubtedly the highest price to pay for each member of these families. This 80-minute documentary produced by Maryse Chapdelaine of Ça Tourne Productions was presented at the opening of the Festival International du cinéma francophone en Acadie (FICFA 2017), then selected at the Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma (RVQC 2019) and at Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival 2019. He earned a nomination for the 2019 Gémeaux awards.
